Possible Strands

Page history last edited by henchenm@... 2 years, 9 months ago

Teams will register for one topic for the morning session and a second one for the afternoon.  The focus for each topic will be how technology can be used to help students master curricular content.  Participants will use skills introduced in the different sessions to develop projects or units of study to use with their students.

Powerful Presentations - Powerpoint & Beyond (Click here to see the Daily Agenda)

How to help students present what they’ve learned through multimedia rich presentations.

The ability to create multimedia presentations is a key communication skill.  We will explore PowerPoint/Keynote and other free, web-based tools that allow students to effectively communicate their understanding of a concept or skill.  Participants will develop curricular projects in which their students create presentations that incorporate text, pictures, recorded voice and other sounds, animations, and other web resources to demonstrate their learning.

Wikis, Websites and Blogs Oh My! (Click here to see the Daily Agenda)

How to use web2.0 technologies to deliver content online and create collaborative learning opportunities beyond the constraints of the traditional classroom?

Create a new wiki, website or blog or take your existing one to the next level. This strand will explore some of the most common forms of web authoring used by educators today including, wikis, blogs, and easy web creation applications.  Special emphasis will be placed on using wikis in the classroom. Teams will use Web2.0 tools to create lessons that foster authentic collaboration.

Teaching with an Interactive Whiteboard (Click here to see the Daily Agenda)

How to build interactive lessons that support engagement in learning?

Get students moving, interacting, collaborating, and creating by designing lessons using interactive whiteboards.  Students construct meaning as they literally manipulate resources projected onto the active screen.  Participants will build lessons to accommodate a range of learning styles that focus on tactile and visual benefits of using whiteboards, and explore how students can use the tool to present what they know in interactive ways.

Digital Storytelling (Click here to see the Daily Agenda)

A picture is worth a thousand words – how to use images to tell a story.

Unleash the power of narrative by creating opportunities for students to tell their stories in an engaging and multi-sensory way.  Digital stories weave together images, recorded narration, text, and music.  Participants will learn how to work with applications to create lessons which ask students to tell a story:  a personal narrative, an exploration of a topic, a recounting of an historical event, or even a profile of their surrounding community.  While the stories will be built using Photostory3, other tools we will explore will include Animoto and Bubblr.

Using Video to Share & Demonstrate Student Learning (Click here to see the Daily Agenda)

Digital media tools empower students as creators, not just consumers of content.

Teachers will learn how to develop project-based lessons requiring students to create a video with an express purpose: whether to inform, entertain, persuade, etc.  We will discuss how to define and plan a project, basic videography, resources, and examine a variety of projects for various grade levels and curricula. The concepts, skills, and examples shall be presented in a manner relevant to classroom teachers and will include media literacy, digital ethics, and 21st century skills.

Web 2.0 Tools and Lesson Plan Makeovers

Technology cannot replace good teaching and good teaching methods.

Web 2.0 has exploded on the teaching scene! Today's teachers can do some serious lesson makeovers to use powerful – and fun - web tools to teach and learn across the curriculum. Explore some of the best of what’s available and then plan how to integrate these educational resources in your existing lesson plans.
